Resources

Journal Entry: Thu May 13, 2004, 9:03 AM
Here's what I could think of for now. If anyone has some different links, please submit them to us for review in a note with "Resources" somewhere in the subject line.

For some really cool celtic art:

[link] - Jim Fitzpatrick's professional website. He is an acclaimed and reknowned celtic artist who is just massively awesome. Introduced me to celtic knotwork (gave me the bug, so to speak) when I was about 9 with the book "The Book of Conquests". One of my most treasured books.

[link] - Aon Celtic - Carie Buziak's website. Again, a very slick professional artist who has her fingers in a lot of different pots. She also has the BEST tutorial, that she updates monthly. Where I learned everything I know.

[link] - A REALLY good site for history and the origins of celtic knotwork. Also has some VERY good tutorials for different kinds of knotwork. One of the best sites I've seen.

[link] - :iconbws: 's site. Of course we had to plug him! Some of the most beautiful knotwork with that wonderful 3D feel to it.

[link] - Just a listing of resources (books) that are good pickings. One of them, by Aiden Meehan, is specifically one of the books that I've used.. over and over and over..

[link] - A very slight blurb with a generalized meaning for celtic knotwork. May have a couple of links to similiar pages.

Note I have tried to omit those pages I came across that were "new-age" or referred to the "mystical sacredness" of the knotwork. It may have had such signifigance, but that's personal opinion and one that I do not espouse.

I would recommend that anyone truly interested in learning the origins and/or symbolic meaning, take anything you find with a grain of salt. There's a lot of "Made up" stuff out there.

The first true documentations of knotwork were found in the Lindisfarne Gospels [link] and The Book of Kells [link] . Such knotwork and designwork are intersparsed all over early religious books, of which we have the Catholic Church to thank.

Knotplot.com

A website all about using 3D plottong programs and VRML to create modles of knots in bits and bytes. Tons of fantastic digital artwork here and a great place for beginers to get a good lock at how knots are constructed. Although much of what you see here doesn't fall into the traditional pattern (up down up down) its educational nonetheless. Thanks to =Stephenzxap for the link to this site.

if you have helpful links, resourses or tutorials please feel free to NOTE us or head on over to our FORUMS and add to the discussion there.

Holy COW, Batman! That's fantastic.. I know where I'm spending the next few weeks.. Matter of fact, that may get added into our regular resources. If anyone happens to save all those pages off line, drop me a note.
